Pujari case adjourned

April 26, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:48 am IST - DINDIGUL:

Principal District Judge R. Poornima adjourned the pujari suicide case to April 27 as the public prosecutor sought more time to submit a court order in a revision petition against dismissal of his plea seeking inclusion of four police officers — retired ADSP Uma, DSP Sethu, Inspectors Ilangovan and Chellapandian — in the list of the accused here on Monday.

All the accused were present in the court on Monday.

Ms. Poornima said the PP should produce the High Court order on or before April 27. Later, she adjourned the case.

Out of 61 witnesses, 20 were examined and cross-examined so far in this case. Six witnesses turned hostile. The court was expected to examine the police officers as witnesses.

S. Nagamuthu (22) of T. Kallupatti, a Dalit, who worked as a pujari in Sri Kailasanathar hill temple in Periyakulam had committed suicide by hanging on December 8, 2012, after he was allegedly subjected to harassment.
