Kannur University steps up efforts on recognition for BA LLB

The SFI on Sunday had warned to intensify protest if the officials failed to take action.

KANNUR: Kannur University has stepped up efforts to regain recognition for its BA - LLB following the warning of students’ organisations of protest. It was de-recognised a decade back after the Bar Council of India (BCI) found that the university had not complied with the criteria for approval.

Registrar Dr Balachandran Keezhoth said it had already submitted the fees and related documents via online to the BCI. “There is no need for worry about recognition. The present issue is merely technical and our team will soon visit BCI officials to regain the approval,” he said.

They realised the non-approval after the NAAC team recently found the course was being conducted without the BCI recognition. “We intimated them that the admission process will start only after regaining it. Students who had already done the course shall not worry about it as all passed out students have already taken the Sanad,” he said.

The University official added that the School of Legal Studies now has better facilities compared to the time it started. “We are also ready to provide more services if they required any,” the Registrar added. The SFI on Sunday had warned to intensify protest if the officials failed to take action.
