Kvitova up to sixth in world rankings

PARIS - Former Wimbledon champion Petra Kvitova has moved past Simona Halep into sixth place in the latest WTA world rankings. Halep of Romania crashed out early in a second round upset to Germany’s Laura Siegemund in Stuttgart last week, while Czech player Kvitova made it to the semifinals where she lost to eventual winner Angelique Kerber. That was the only positional change in the top 10 with Serena Williams still comfortably ahead atop the rankings. Australian Opaen champion Kerber stays in third. WTA top 10: 1. RSS Inter-Branch 2-Day Football

ISLAMABAD - A full throttle Inter-Branch ‘2-Day Football Tournament’ was arranged by Roots School System (RSS) to tantalize the sportsmanship of young learners on Monday. Teams from all the branches of Roots School System DHA I Campus, 15 Tulsa, 41 Harley, 93 Harley, 76/3 Harley, Adyala, 34 Civil Lines and 40 Civil Lines exuded confidence and discipline during the matches. The semi-final and final matches were full of excitement and enjoyment. The students displayed great sportsmanship and they were extended full support and appreciation by their respective branch heads, teachers and companions. Faisalabad win Punjab women judo title

LAHORE - Faisalabad division won the Punjab women judo title accumulating 22 points here Monday at the auditorium of Government Post Graduate College for Women. Female judo players from Faisalabad displayed their skills to outplay their respective opponents in all departments of the game to win the competition. Rawalpindi secured 14 points to bag second position while Lahore earned 12 points to secure third. Sargodha were fourth with 9 points while Multan fifth with 7 points and Bahawalpur finished sixth with 6 points. Go lden Eagles win Veteran Cricket Cup

LAHORE - Golden Eagles have routed Aftab Qarshi by six wickets to clinch the 2nd Turk Plast Veterans’ Cricket Gold Cup here at the Ali Garh cricket ground. Batting first, Aftab Qarshi scored 251 for the loss of five wickets in 30 overs with Asif Ijaz smashing unbeaten 92, Musroor Hussain 49, Mihsin Aftab 40 and Javed Malik 31. Ch Tajammal bowled well and clinched three wickets for 37 runs. In reply, Golden Eagles achieved the target for the loss of four wickets in 29 overs. Ashfaq Askam hammered 83 runs while Shahid Anwar contributed 51 and M Hafeez 61. Tariq Hussain took two wickets for 30 and Naveed Sufi got two for 45. Bilal Khilji of Golden Eagles was declared the best batsman of the tournament for his 498 in six matches, including a brilliant knock of 205 runs. Tajammal Chaudhary of Golden Eagles and Tariq Hussain of Aftab Qarshi were declared the best bowlers while Zubair Butt of Golden Eagles was named the best wicketkeeper and Jamshed Suleman of Amar Cables the best fielder. Film star Shan Shahid was the chief guest at the final and gave away prizes to the winners. CEO Turk Plast Hammad Maqbool, Nawab Ashiq Hussain Qureshi, Mian Tasaddaq Rasool, Amer Ilyas Butt, Mohsin Aftab, Salman Khan and several other personalities were also present on the occasion.–Staff Reporter
