ISLAMABAD - Nearly 300,000 Temporarily Displaced Persons (TDPs) have safely returned to their homes so far, official sources said yesterday. This phase of TDPs’ return will be completed by mid of May.
According to details, 86,500 TDPs have returned to Khyber Agency, 78,000 returned to Bajaur, 37,000 to North Waziristan Agency, 60,000 to Mohmand, 22,200 Orakzai and 6000 to Kurrum agency.
The federal government has given Rs35,000 per family with six months ration. The programme aims to return maximum number of TDPs to their homes before the commencement of holy month of Ramazan.

Siachin area
Chief Military Observer and Head of United Nations Military Observers Group in India and Pakistan (UNMOGIP), Major General Delali Johnson Sakyi, yesterday visited Siachin and laid floral wreath at Gyari martyrs monument.
On 7 April 2012, an avalanche had hit a Pakistani military base in Gayari Sector, near the Siachen Glacier region, trapping 140 soldiers and civilian contractors under deep snow.
The incident occurred at an altitude of about 13,000 feet and 180 miles northeast of Skardu (capital of Baltistan). It was the worst avalanche that the Pakistani military has experienced in the area.
On May 29, 2012, Pakistan declared that the 129 soldiers and 11 civilians were dead.
UNMOGIP is one of the oldest UN missions established in 1948 to report ceasefire violations along LOC and working boundary.
