PEC placed 49th in NIRF ranking

Students asked to participate in co-curricular activities forpersonality development

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) awarded 49{+t}{+h}rank to Pondicherry Engineering College (PEC) amongst the technical institutes in India.

Yasam Lakshmi Narayana Reddy, Director Higher and Technical Education, Government of Puducherry, participating in the college day function of PEC on April 20 advised the students to participate in co-curricular activities for personality development. He said that PEC has achieved the 49{+t}{+h}rank due to the immense contribution of the faculty and students. He added that in the academic year 2015-16, three new PG courses were started and nearly 30 research scholars have obtained Ph.D. in various departments.

Mr. Reddy distributed prizes, medals and certificates for the students for their academic achievements.

S. Subramanian, Dean (Administration), welcomed the gathering. T. Sundararajan, Principal, PEC, read out the annual reports on the achievements of the staff and students of the academic year.

Career Counselling held for students

The Christ College of Engineering and Technology and Christ Institute of Technology jointly hosted a Career Guidance Programme ‘Vaazhkaikku Vazhikaatti -16’ for the students completing their Higher Secondary Schooling.

TV anchor Gopinath and former Vice Chancellor of Anna University Mannar Jawahar were the chief guest for the function. Director of the Christ College of Engineering and Technology and Christ Institute of Technology A. Ravichandran delivered the welcome address.

He stated that the members of the teaching fraternity are delivering a noble service. “We are proud that we are creating a pathway to the future generation by giving them career guidance after the higher secondary schooling,” he added.

Chairman and Managing Director of Sam Paul Educational Trust S.R.S. Paul in his presidential address said that they have moved to the next step in the field of education by facilitating the students to decide their future.

Mr. Mannar Jawahar explained the future career prospects in store for the students who are planning to pursue Engineering as their field of study. Mr. Gopinath spoke about the different courses students could pursue in the field of arts and science.

A gala Annual and Sports Day

The Saradha Gangadharan College of Puducherry celebrated its 15{+t}{+h}Annual Day and Sports Day on April 19, on the premises of the college. S. Pazhaniraja, Vice-Chairman of the college presided over the function and G. Kumar, IFS, Conservator of Forest, Department of Forest and Wildlife, Government of Puducherry, was the chief guest.

L. Nadarajan, Principal of the college, presented the annual report 2015-16 of the college. A college magazine for 2015-16 was released by the Vice-Chairman and it was received by the chief guest. The best outgoing students were honoured with medals and certificates. Prizes for the winners of various competitions including essay writing, elocution, quiz, sports, NSS, YRC were distributed. Winners of various competitions conducted on the eve of Women’s Day celebration were honoured. A Rolling Trophy instituted by the Rotract Club of Puducherry-Aurocity was bagged by the Mathematics students.

A musical ‘Global Galatta’

Global Institute of Engineering and Technology, Melvisharam, conducted the “Global Galatta 2016” annual day celebration recently. VIT University Chancellor G. Viswanathan, speaking on the occasion, stressed the need to create opportunities for students to gain employment, besides providing good education. A music concert and cultural programmes were organised as part of the celebrations. K. Thamizharasu, principal, presented the annual report. The institute’s chairperson Hema Prasad was present, according to a press release.

Eye camp conducted

The National Service Scheme Cell of Priyadarshini Engineering College, Vaniyambadi and Vasan Eye Care, Ambur organised an eye camp recently. Nearly 350 students and staff benefitted from the camp.
