2 MLAs, 4 others file papers

K. Sivadasan Nair, Chittayam Gopakumar among those who filed nominations

The Returning Officers of the Aranmula, Ranni, and Adoor have received a total of six nominations for the Assembly polls scheduled for May 16 on Monday.

The United Democratic Front (UDF) nominee for the Aranmula Assembly constituency, K. Sivadasan Nair, filed his papers in the forenoon. Mr Nair, the sitting MLA, reached the Collectorate for filing his papers, after offering prayers at the Aranmula Sree Parthasarathy temple and at the Malayalappuzha Devi temple.

The District Congress Committee president, P. Mohanraj, and district leaders of various UDF constituents also accompanied the MLA to the Collectorate.

The Adoor MLA, Chittayam Gopakumar of the Communist Party of India, filed his papers before the Returning Officer at Adoor in the forenoon. The UDF nominee for Adoor, K.K. Shaju, too filed his papers on Monday.

Mariyamma Cherian, Congress nominee for Ranni constituency, filed her papers in Ranni while the National Democratic Alliance nominee for the Thiruvalla Assembly seat, Akkeeramon Kalidasan Bhattathirippad, field his papers before the Returning Officer in Thiruvalla in the forenoon.

An independent candidate in Thiruvalla , Feby Eapen Cherian, too filed his papers before the Returning Officer on Monday.

The SUCI nominee for the Aranmula seat, K.G. Anilkumar, was the first one to file papers in the district on Friday. The Election Office sources said that with this the total number of nominations received in the district had gone up to seven as on Monday afternoon.
