Kayakalp initiative: Union ministry officials to inspect hygiene maintenance at Chandigarh PGIMER

A team of Union health ministry would visit the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research this week to inspect if the hospital administration is maintaining hygiene at the health hub.

Last month, the PGI bagged the first prize of Rs 5 crore as a part of the Union health ministry’s Kayakalp initiative, which was announced last year to promote cleanliness and enhance the quality of public health in the country.

Sources in the health department told the Chandigarh Newsline on Monday that the Union ministry has decided to conduct a drive in PGI and other nine institutes, including AIIMS in New Delhi, which were awarded for maintaining hygiene and sanitation.

A senior official said” “The purpose of the drive is to ensure that hygiene is maintained at the healthcare institutes on a routine basis in order to provide safe and clean environment to the patients. Senior officials would visit the hospital to oversee the hygiene conditio”.”
The official said the inspection would be done on the management of depleted store items, debris and bio-medical waste, standards of pantry and laundry and how the hospital deals with infection control.

A senior PGI official said: “Yes, we have received a communication from the ministry. We are preparing for the visit.”
