De-addiction camp begins in Jaisalmer
Jaisalmer: The de-addiction camps for doda post addicts started in the district from Monday. In Jaisalmer, a total of 25 camps will be held. The first one started at Jawahar Hospital on Monday.
It may be noted that the government had banned the sale of doda post from April 1. From July last year till March this year, such camps were held but the doda post addicts didn't benefit much as follow-up camps were not organised.
According to health department, last year, 49 camps were held and a total of 1,596 addicts had attended them.

Doda post was sold in the state till March 31 and all 'licence holders' had been purchasing it, which means that addicts did not quit doda post.
The medical department officers do not know how many addicts had quit doda post in the 49 camps. Deputy CMHO Dr Murlidhar Soni said that last year, a total of 49 camps were organised in which 1,596 addicts had come, but he does not know how many of them quit doda post.
A follow-up programme was also held but there is no record of it. Now, new 25 camps will be organised.
CMHO Dr R N Naik said that after March 31, the government is now organising de-addiction camps and in 2016-17, 25 camps will be held in Jaisalmer.

He said that as per the directions from the directorate, the dates and places for 25 camps have been decided and the schedule will be put at Ramgarh, Jhinjhiyali, Phalsoon, Devikot, Fatehgarh, Ramdeora, Nachna and Khuhadi etc. The camps will be organised for 8 to 15 days, and maximum 50 addicts can attend a camp.
The treatment at the camps will be done under the supervision of a psychiatrist and a physician.
