Naxals gun down two tribals, another 10 on hit list
Nagpur: Naxals’ Tippagarh dalam of north Gadchiroli gunned down two tribals branding them as police informers and released a hit list of another dozen people on Monday. The brutal act has reportedly triggered panic in the region.
Matpurshah Sanku Holi (42) and Gongshu Kumoti (41) were shot dead by Naxals at Kamthala forest within the limits of Malewada police post in Kurkheda division.
The victims were kidnapped a couple of days ago by the Naxals from their villages. Police had already launched a search operations in the forested region to rescue the duo. Their bodies, having bullet injuries, were found on Monday morning putting to rest speculations regarding their fate.
A section of cops feels that Dinkar Gota, commander of the Tippagarh Local organizational squad (LOS), had been behind the latest murders of the local tribals. The Naxals are under pressure in North Gadchiroli after their stronghold turned into a police bastion after opening of an armed outpost. Earlier, police had erected a base camp here for three months.
Superintendent of police, Gadchiroli, Sandip Patil, heavily came down on Naxals, saying Kumoti was a former informer of the force, but Holi had nothing to do with any such activities. “Kumoti had been an inactive informer and so discontinued around some time ago. Naxals assumed that Kumoti had passed on information which had led to encounter and seizures which was a mere misconception,” he said.
Patil said that Naxals are now targeting a spiritual leader Amba Bhagwan and his group as police informers for reasons best known to them. “Kumoti and Holi were mere members of Bhagwan’s group for which they had to face the brunt,” said SP.
He said that police have nothing to do with the Bhagwan‘s group targeting whom shall only vitiate Naxals’ image.
