Congress leader Sunil Jakhar said once the wheat procurement season ends, the party leadership would lead a delegation to the PM office to seek physical verification of the food grain stock. He was referring to the scam in which Rs 12,000 crore-worth food stock was allegedly missing in the state.
“After consulting the high command, we will seek time from the PM to apprise him about the state of affairs of Punjab in the missing food stock. We will also request the PM to release the Cash Credit Limit (CCL) on time in the coming paddy procurement season so that farmers do not suffer again,” Jakhar said. He said, “The Congress will demand from the PM an inquiry into the missing stock from a sitting or retired judge of the High Court.”
Jakhar said after the release of the Rs 17,523 crore CCL by the Centre, Akalis had been “celebrating” to imply that they had got a clean chit in the food grain scam. “Punjab has been facing this problem again and again. Last year also, during the paddy season, when the CCL was released after being withheld for almost two weeks, the Punjab Government claimed a similar clean chit for all its misdeeds,” said Jakhar.
