Srinagar, April 25
Kashmir will host a chess championship of eight nations of the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) in September this year.
Around 300 players from SAARC nations would participate in the South Asian Amateur Chess Championship in the six-day competition.
The All-India Chess Federation under the auspices of the Asian Chess Federation (ACF) has invited Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka to participate in the 2016 Chess Championship
“The championship will be held in Srinagar, from September 1-6 and the tournament will be organised at the Sher-i-Kashmir Indoor Sports Complex, Srinagar,” Ashiq Ahmed Kolu, secretary, All J&K Chess Association, said.
He added that the event would help players from the state.
