Rustenburg - Two men accused of fraud and possession of falsified sick notes were granted bail in the Rustenburg Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Biral Wayaba and Samuel Mucamba, from Uganda, were each released on R2 000 bail and their case was postponed to May 20 for investigation.
They were arrested on April 18 in the Rustenburg central business district.
This was after an employee of a shopping mall in the area produced a medical certificate bearing the name of a well-known doctor. This same doctor had once warned people in a local newspaper about falsified sick notes.
The employer contacted the doctor's practice and discovered that the doctor did not have a record of the alleged patient.
The police were notified and they demanded that the employee take them to the bogus doctors' consulting rooms.
On arrival, the police found the alleged fake doctors consulting with another victim.
They are also alleged to have been found in possession of medical certificates and date stamps bearing the names of several real doctors.
