20-year-old college student gangraped in Anand
SURAT: Police detained 11 suspects from Vallabh Vidhya Nagar in Anand district of Gujarat on Monday for alleged gang-rape of a 20-year-old college student of Daman town of union territory of Daman and Diu. The survivor was allegedly gang-raped earlier during the week in Daman and Anand. Police are yet to make any arrest and the suspects are being questioned.
The survivor, resident of a town in south Gujarat and currently student of a college at Daman, contacted the Nani Daman police station on Sunday and lodged the complaint.
Registering the complaint police started investigation and detained the suspects.
Police are yet to disclose names of the detained suspects as the investigation is in preliminary stage. “Since the suspects are students, police are taking enough care to investigate their role. Only after questioning they will be arrested and details about them will be shared,” said Eish Singhal, superintendent of police, Daman.
“The survivor was gang-raped in Daman and Anand district. The 11 suspects belong to different cities of Gujarat and are currently under police detention,” said Singhal. Police are yet to share details of the exact locations where the survivor was raped.
