Port Talbot Town lose licence appeal

Port Talbot Town lose licence appeal

Port Talbot Town FC have lost an appeal against a decision by the Football Association of Wales (FAW) not to award the licence needed for them to play in the Welsh Premier League next season.

The decision means that the club, currently tenth in the Welsh Premier League, will be relegated at the end of the season.

The FAW First Instance Body made the decision not to award the club a UEFA and FAW domestic licence earlier in the month.

The Blues appealed but the decision was upheld by the FAW Licensing Appeals Body on 21 April 2016.

The FAW domestic licence is required to participate in the Welsh Premier League, while the UEFA licence is a pre-requisite for UEFA club competitions.

Clubs are assessed on criteria including their stadium, youth facilities, coaching and finances.

In a statement, Port Talbot Town said: "The club are saddened by the news and would like to apologise to all supporters of the club.

"The Blues' first-team will now ply their trade next season in the Welsh Football League."
