Thousands witness Dasavatharam

Madurai: Thousands of devotees gathered at the Ramarayar Mandapam on the banks of the Vaigai in Madurai on Saturday night to witness the 'Dasavatharam'of Lord Kallazhagar, the deity of the Kallazhagar temple in Alagarkoil.
Mythical stories connected with the 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu were enacted throughout the night at the mandapam. The idol of Lord Kallazhagar was decorated in various forms.Special rituals and pujas were also performed.
The deity will be taken to the Ramanathapuram Mannar Sethupathi Mandapam in Tallakulam on Sunday night where special rituals will be performed. He will be taken out in a procession in Madurai on Monday morning, before leaving for his abode on a floral palanquin in the evening. The deity will reach Alagarkoil on Tuesday morning. The Chittirai festival will draw to a close with Utsava Santhi being performed to the deity.
