Reputed builder Supertech made news for the wrong reasons again when plaster on the ceiling of an apartment in a newly constructed high-rise in Noida peeled off and fell on the flat’s unsuspecting occupants on Saturday morning.
An infant residing in the flat, in Supertech's Capetown residential project in Sector 74, Noida, suffered minor injuries.
The baby’s father, Jitendra Jha, alleged that the builder had used inferior construction material and said he was negotiating with the realty major for compensation and repairs.
Supertech denied that the baby got injured in the incident but acknowledged the mishap. “There was some minor drilling work on the 19th floor for fixing curtain and due to this some plaster fell down... There is no incidence that occurred during that time (sic) and no one is injured,” said a Supertech official in an email reply.
The family had moved into the flat late last year after paying Rs. 50 lakh for the property. They said cracks had started developing in the apartment soon after and they had repeatedly written to the builder about it.
Mr. Jha said the injuries to the baby were minor, but added that there were larger issues of structural safety.
A team of Supertech officials visited the house on Saturday and offered the family another guest house till the repair of their flat is completed. But Mr. Jha said the alternative accommodation lacked basic facilities.
He also alleged that Supertech officials had warned him against sharing any details of the incident with the media. He said he was contemplating legal action against the company.
The incident has happened at a time when several builders, including Supertech, are facing the anger of buyers for delaying possession in several projects, mainly in NCR.
For Supertech, the news comes days after the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority asked them to seal 1,009 flats and villas at its sprawling Czar complex in Sector Omicron-1, Greater Noida, for violations.
