District Collector M.G. Rajamanickam tested his musical skills in the company of children from the slum area here on Sunday.

It was not a competition, but a memorable get-together where Mr. Rajamanickam sang and played guitar and keyboard as part of the conclusion of the second phase of the project titled Muthe…Ponne at the Santhipuram Colony at Thammanam.

Launched under the banner of Anbodu Kochi, a voluntary organisation, the aim of the programme was to expose the children to a positive environment and getting them engaged in working on their talents.

Mr. Rajamanickam joined the children in a competition, where they were asked to recognise the song by listening to its tune played on keyboard. Mr. Rajamanickam lost no time to help teams that could not identify the tunes and earned their applause. A Chenda melam marked the finale of the programme.

Mr. Rajamanickam said that children with various talents in the colony will be identified.

They will be imparted further training in various areas. Steps will also be taken to provide books to the library besides giving them training in competitive examinations.

R. Nishanthini, Superintendent of Police (Vigilance), joined her husband in the initiative and interacted with the colony members. Interactive sessions, motivational classes, theatre and dance workshops were held as part of the camp.
