Several minority organisations and non-governmental organisations have asked the government to house the Centre for Educational Development of Minorities (CEDM) and the Telangana Minority Study Circle (TMSC) at the ‘Wakf Complex’, adjacent to the Haj House at Nampally.
The CEDM set up to offer coaching for admission test for higher education, has been functioning from the Nizam College premises at Basheerbagh for the last two decades.
The CEDM is funded by the Minority Welfare Department while the planning and implementation of the programmes is conducted by the Osmania University. Around 6,000 to 7,000 students enrol for various admission teats including EAMCET, ICET and POLYCET.
“The CEDM lacks a spacious building forcing the management to conduct classes at private buildings. All coaching programmes should be conducted at one place,” S.M. Abdul Samad, member Forum for Educational Empowerment of Minorities said.
The State government had constructed a multi-storied building adjacent to the Haj House and aims to lease out the building to commercial establishments. Officials feel, that the revenue collected could be utilised for the development of minorities.
