College Day

Sankaralingam Bhuvaneswari College of Pharmacy, Sivakasi, celebrated its 28th Founder’s Day and College Day on April 8. S. Sriram Ashok, Correspondent, presided over the function. P. Solairaj, Principal, read the annual report of the college. A. Abdul Hassan Sathali, Principal, College of Pharmacy, Madurai Medical College, was the chief guest. S. Gopalakrishnan, Chairman of the College Governing Council, offered felicitations. Earlier, R. Sutharsingh, Vice-Principal, welcomed the gathering.

S. Stephen Ambrose, Professor of Pharmacology Department, proposed the vote of thanks.

Candle lighting service

Rev. Jacob Memorial Christian College, Ambilikkai, conducted candle lighting service on April 7. The opening prayer was said by S. Nirmalkumar, Head, Department of Commerce and special message was given by Nirmala Jeyaraj, secretary. The final prayer and benediction was a given by Principal B. Jothikumar.

Sports Day

The annual Sports Day and athletic meet of Mepco Schlenk Engineering College, Sivakasi, was conducted on April 12. S. Selvam, Senior Geotechnical Engineer, Somehsa Geosciences, Singapore, an alumnus, was the chief guest.

In his address, he said that one must have three types of strengths to excel in life and to live long.

Those were physical strength, mental strength and spiritual strength.

The body and mind were interrelated. In order to have a strong mind, one must have a strong body, i.e. good physical strength. Participation in sports helped in getting it — at school level, college level and also after the college days.

Even corporates encourages their employees to participate in games and sports events.

Meet on

emerging trends

An international conference on “Emerging trends in science, engineering, technology and management” was held at P.S.R. Engineering College, Sivakasi, recently.

The chief guest, Mohamed Thariq Bin Hameed Sultan, Director/Head, Research Centre of Excellence, Aerospace Manufacturing Research Centre.

University Putra, Malaysia, advised the young researchers to concentrate more on finite element analysis, fluid dynamics and composite materials research, which were emerging areas.

He urged that ways must be found to recycle waste materials which could not be destructed. Old X-ray sheets could be used in bulletproof vests in the defence sector, he said. Velkennedy, Professor of Civil Engineering Department, Thiagarajar College of Engineering, Madurai, delivered the special address.

Graduation

Day

Sree Sowdambika College of Engineering, Aruppukottai, celebrated the 12th Graduation Day on March 27. S. Natarajan, Vice-chancellor, Gandhigram Rural Institute, delivered the keynote address. Around 230 graduates received their degree certificates.

A total 871 students received their degrees at the graduation day held at PSNA College of Engineering and Technology in Dindigul recently.

A total of 1,039 candidates had been placed through a campus interview, said college sources.

Malaysia Binary University of Management and Entrepreneurship Executive Chairman Joseph Adaikalam delivered the address.

Annual Day

The K.L.N. College of Information Technology, Pottapalayam, celebrated its Annual Day on April 2. S. Madivannan, former scientist, CVRDE-DRDO, Chennai, was the chief guest. K.N.K. Karthik, president, welcomed the gathering. Principal J.S. Gnanasekaran presented the annual report. Mr. Madivannan, in his address, said that right attitude, consistent efforts and practice were keys to gain mastery over the subjects.

He advised the students not to get deviated by transient happiness and asked them to realise their responsibilities in the society. G.R. Radhakrishnan, joint-secretary, proposed a vote of thanks.
