Bhullar release on parole: We celebrated Diwali, says residents of Dyalpura Bhaika village

This village is where Bhullar grew up. His paternal cousins, Mukhtair Singh and Gurjant Singh, still live here with their families.

Hearing the news of Davinder Pal Singh Bhullar’s release on parole, residents of Dyalpura Bhaika village in Bathinda rejoiced. Together with Bhullar’s family, they came together to re-open his ancestral house, cleaned it, distributed laddoos and organised a Sukhmani Sahib Path.

This village is where Bhullar grew up. His paternal cousins, Mukhtair Singh and Gurjant Singh, still live here with their families.

“We lit fireworks and even organised a candle march to celebrate the good news. In a way, we celebrated Diwali,” said Sukhwinder Kaur, Mukhtair’s wife. “My husband will be going to meet Bhullar and they will ask him to visit us. We hope the government permits this.”

Bhullar had left the village after he completed his matriculation. His mother Upkar Kaur is living in the US along with her younger son. The family also has 15 acres farm in the village.

“His mother had visited India a number of times to pursue her son’s case, but she is not in good health these days. We do not yet know whether she will be coming this time to meet her son or not,” said Mukhtair.
