MENDHAR, Apr 24: A poor handicapped person was hit by a bus in the town here and kept lying unattended on the road side for hours.
The victim identified as, Mohd Khaliq, son of Lal Din, resident of Banola in Mendhar, was moving along the road when he was hit by Video coach No. JK-12 / 5965 at around 8.15 am. His foot was seriously crushed under rear wheels of the bus. The people raised alarm and asked the driver to stop the bus but driver fled away from the spot.
The man, who is said to be little mentally retarded, kept lying there for hours together but neither police nor locals of the area shifted this poor and hapless man to hospital. Later, at around 1 pm he was kept on the Rehri (Thela) and was shifted to Sub District hospital. When in the mid-way, he was then shifted in ambulance and taken to local hospital. The locals said that they called up police but they did not respond properly.
SHO, Anzir Mir when contacted said that he received no information in this regard. BMO Dr Zulfkar said that he did not receive any call from police regarding sending an ambulance to shift the injured victim to hospital. Only a doctor told and then we sent ambulance. It took over 5 hours to shit the accident victim to hospital which was hardly 300 mtrs away from the accident spot.
SDPO, assured to hold an inquiry into the matter and also arrest the accused driver involved in hit and run case.
