JNUSU President Kanhaiya Kumar’s visit to Pune has thrown the administration of Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) into an overdrive. Although Kumar was not supposed to visit the campus and students said they had not invited him, the institute administration has stopped entry of all outsiders including ex-students and journalists for three days between April 23 to 25.

He also showed a notice issued to the institute by Deccan Police which explicitly told the administration to ‘deny Kanhaiya Kumar’ a visit to avoid causing a law and order situation at the campus. It also requested the institute administration to provide it with the names of FTII students who were trying to meet Kumar.

“Don’t allow entry to students without wearing I-Cards and especially to ex-students who are not studying at the institute anymore. There are some students from the lot of 35 who have been booked under offence 246/2015 (detention of FTII,Director) and trying to contact Kanhaiya Kumar. Please provide clear information about such students. Given the background of students’ agitation at the institute, we are of the opinion that the institute should deny Kanhaiya Kumar a visit,” reads letter signed by Sucheta Khokle, Police Inspector (Crime) on April 18 2016.
