'Amethi to get a shooting range'

Human resource and development minister Smriti Irani on Sunday promised to get a shooting range constructed in Amethi to encourage local girls to take up shooting as sports.

Amethi: Human resource and development minister Smriti Irani on Sunday promised to get a shooting range constructed in Amethi to encourage local girls to take up shooting as sports. Irani made the announcement during an interaction with women here. Olympian and shooter from UP, Ruchi Singh, was also present in the meeting.
The shooting range would come up through CSR activity, Irani said.

The HRD minister also spoke to Sweety Misra, a local resident and wife of slain Hindi journalist Tarun Misra, over phone. Irani announced that Sweety would also work with Ruchi Singh at the proposed shooting range. The minister also promised to get Sweety's son admitted to a Central School in Amethi.
The minister told Amethi residents that "whenever you are in trouble or need any help, I will stand by you."On her interest, Ruchi, who had participated in youth Olympic held at Singapore, said that she developed interest in shooting competition after a camp was organised in Amethi in 2005. Since she had participated in the camp, she developed interest and decided to chose it as her profession, Ruchi, a resident of Dhaurara village in Sangrampur block, said. She has given four out of six trials for world cup qualification and is presently stands among top five. Since only top 3 get selected for World cup, Ruchi is hoping to improve her performance in the next two trials.
