Bandra family's picnic turns tragic, 6-yr-old drowns in Arnala resort pool
Mumbai: A six-year-old boy from Bandra (W) drowned in the swimming pool of a resort in Arnala, Virar (W), where he had gone for a picnic with his family on Sunday. The family left their home at Nargis Dutt Nagar in their car early on Sunday.
Ayan Shaikh, a class I student, was playing with his two elder sisters in the children’s pool at Palm Beach Resort and his parents were in the pool meant for adults.

Around 2pm, when Ayan’s father Nizammudin went to check on his children, he was shocked not to find the boy in the pool. The family members looked for Ayan everywhere and finally found him floating lifeless in the main swimming pool. The boy was rushed to a nearby private hospital, but was declared dead before admission. The body has been send to the Virar primary health centre for a post-mortem.
Nizammudin complained that there was no lifeguard in the swimming pool area and no one stopped his son from getting into the adult pool.
The Arnala police have registered a case of accidental death. They will question the resort owners before a case of negligence is filed, said a police officer.
There are around 15 resorts in Arnala. In the past too, there have been drowning incidents reported at some of the resorts there, but no stern action has been taken against those found flouting rules till date.
