Justice Verma reaches Araria to inspect district court

Araria: Justice BP Verma of Patna high court, who is also the inspecting judge for Araria, arrived here on Sunday on a two-day visit.
"He will inspect the court and the facilities available here on Monday and Tuesday," said Suresh Prasad Sinha of district civil court.
It may be mentioned here that the Araria district court created in September 2014 is facing a plethora of problems.
The court, which is functioning with 13 judicial officers and 45 clerical staff, is facing acute hardship in managing the huge number of cases. Everyday about 250 to 300 new civil and criminal cases are filed from across the district.
While Araria was upgraded as a full-fledged district on November 14, 1990, it got a district court after 24 years of its creation. Sources said all the courts have been shifted to the new building and all old spacious court rooms have been left abandoned.
As the court is yet to be connected with the National Judicial Data Grid, electronic gadgets and computers fitted on the table of the presiding officers of the courts are also gathering dust.

"Vehicles, especially theft of two-wheelers is rampant here as there is no parking facility either on the court campus or outside the campus. The court premises is sans canteen, ATM, separate lavatory for women, law book stall, safe drinking water facility, proper sanitation, etc. The lift of the new building housing all the courts are non-functional from day one, while the lavatories attached with the new building meant for the commoners are also locked," said a lawyer.
An official on the condition of anonymity said, "Due to lack of almirahs or wooden racks, case records are kept on surfaces scattered while in absence of adequate number of assistants, officials and other staff are forced to take the help of outsiders to maintain the records."
Meanwhile, district and sessions judge Rajendra Prasad Tiwari has interacted with the senior lawyers and others to make Justice BP Verma's visit memorable.
The members of District Bar Association and Advocates' Association have also geared up to accord him a warm welcome.
