Hertfordshire Mavericks cannot finish top of the Vitality Netball Superleague after they suffered a 52-48 defeat to top four rivals Surrey Storm.
The Mavericks held a 28-23 lead at half-time, but Surrey completed an impressive comeback win which boosts their hopes of a home semi-final and means Manchester Thunder are guaranteed top spot.
Surrey can finish above Hertfordshire in second place due to goal difference if the Mavericks suffer another defeat in Monday's rearranged game with Thunder.
Josie Huckle made a quick impact for Surrey when she was introduced in the third quarter, stealing three straight balls as Hertfordshire's attack began to falter.
The reliable shooting of Rachel Dunn then trimmed the Mavericks lead to 39-37 after the third quarter.
Surrey's defensive players stood firm in the closing 15 minutes and a string of turnovers allowed the Storm to pull ahead as Pamela Cookey added more decisive goals.
Elsewhere, fourth-placed Team Bath joined Surrey and Hertfordshire on 30 points after a dominant 75-55 win over Loughborough Lightning.
Team Northumbria ended their regular campaign with a fourth win after sealing a 60-47 victory over Celtic Dragons.
