Kochi: A 47-year-old man drowned in Periyar on Saturday. The deceased, Mahin, a native of Thottumugham near Aluva, had come to Aluva Manappuram where his daughter and son were undergoing training in swimming.
The Aluva police said that the accident took place around 9.30am when Mahin joined with his children and other students who were attending swimming class.
"Mahin had come to watch his children undergoing swimming lesson. However, he later began training his daughter. Though Mahin was good at swimming, he reportedly got fatigued after a while. Though onlookers tried to rescue him, he was pulled away by undercurrent," said a police officer.
The body was handed over to relatives after postmortem. "We are waiting for the autopsy report to check whether Mahin had died of cardiac failure while swimming," said the officer.
He is survived by wife Sajeera, daughter Shahina, a Plus-Two student and son Sahin, Class VIII student.
