Accused claim NIA coercing them for confessions
Ahmedabad: Three persons accused in the Bharuch double murder case filed affidavits in the special court on Saturday stating that they are being coerced to make confessions.
All three prisoners - Nasir Khan Pathan, Zoaib Ansari and Salim Ghanchi - have also urged the court that even if the probe agency, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), submits any such statements to the court as recorded under section 164 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the court must ignore them.
This is because they are not inclined to make any confession pertaining to the alleged crime.
These affidavits were filed to substantiate the complaint made on Tuesday by Pathan's wife, Ruksana, to the special NIA court alleging that the investigating agency was trying to pressurize her husband, Ganchi, and other accused to turn approver. She urged the court to restrain the investigators from forcibly extracting confession from her husband. She also requested the court to intervene because the probe official, Namrata Patil, was allegedly also pressurizing her to convince her husband to turn an approver.
Ruksana alleged that NIA officials, in connivance with Surat jail authorities, were pressurizing her husband. She feared for his life because he is a heart patient.
