Uganda Premier League. SC Victoria University put up brief resistance against Bright Stars but go on to lose 3-0. The defeat also cements their place in the relegation zone.

KAMPALA.

All three Azam Uganda Premier League games on Friday featured the bottom three teams in the topflight division. And by the end of the day, all moved towards one direction; down.

Bottom of the log and with four games left, Maroons fought hardest and could have salvaged a point had Maxwell Okello’s header not been cleared off the line with virtually the last kick of the game.

Instead, the Luzira side are now 11 points from safety after a 2-1 defeat to Express in which Ibrahim Kayiwa and Vincent Kayizzi struck for the Red Eagles. Patrick Kaddu got Maroons’ goal from a penalty.

Second from bottom SC Victoria University (SCVU) put up some resistance against Bright Stars.

However, that resistance was subdued after the hour mark when poor ball control by Kenneth Kato let in Anthony Bongole for the first goal. That livened up the game and set the tone for a 3-0 win for Bright Stars who got a quick second from Bruhan Matovu before Julius Kawadwa sealed it with a solo effort. In Kavumba, Simba failed to capitalize on Sadat Kyambadde’s 77th minute sending off to fall to Peter Ssenyonjo’s late first half goal in a 1-0 defeat to Police.

The loss, like SCVU, leaves Simba five points from safety with two more games played than The Saints who, at 24 games, have six fixtures left. That result left Express as the biggest beneficiaries on the day as they climbed two places to third with 42 points, a game in hand and nine points behind leaders KCCA. The victory was Express’ eighth in the last 11 games.
