Gadkari has written to Yeddyurappa on the in-principle approval for the project

The Union Ministry for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, Nitin Gadkari, has in-principle given an approval for the construction of a bridge across Sharavathi backwaters to connect Kalasavalli and Ambaragodlu villages.

Memorandum submitted

It may be mentioned here that Shivamogga MP B.S. Yeddyurappa had recently submitted a memorandum to the Union Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping, to take up the work of the construction of bridge across the Sharavati backwaters.

Delay in implementation

The work of construction of the 2.16 kilometre-long bridge is estimated to cost Rs. 164.59 crore. The State government had given its nod for the project in the year 2008 itself, but the work is yet to commence.

Mr. Gadkari has written to Mr. Yeddyurappa on April 21 stating that the Ministry has agreed in-principle for the construction.

However, there is no mention of the amount required for the project and the date from which the work would commence, in the letter.

According to sources, the construction work is likely to be taken up as part of the project to connect National Highway 206 with National Highway 766C that pass through Sagar and Hosanagar taluks respectively.
