He may not have possessed the glamour and presence of many of his contemporaries, but Patricio Aylwin was what Chile needed at the time after the Pinochet dictatorship.

THE year’s not even a quarter of a way in and it seems like every few days, an iconic figure from my youth has passed away. Johan Cruyff, David Bowie, Keith Emerson, Ronnie Corbett, Gary Shandling, Harper Lee, Prince. The list is extensive and I guess it makes sense when you consider my own middle age (turning 43 next month) and the age of those I would have grown up admiring.
