Admn slams brakes on parking at 1090 crossing

Lucknow: Parking vehicles on roads along 1090 crossing would no longer be legal with district administration asking LDA and Smarak Samiti to restore the defunct parking facility near Parag booth and make it functional on priority.
It is a huge facility that can accommodate about 120 cars and two-wheelers but has been lying unused for almost five years now.
Being a busy commercial area with many eating joints, shops and an entire street of food vendors, people often come here for outings and park vehicles haphazardly on roadsides, causing obstruction to smooth traffic flow.
The crossing is an important landmark of Gomtinagar and connects many important routes going to VIP areas like Kalidas Marg, Golf Club Chauraha, Dalibagh, Samta Mulak Chauraha and Fun Republic Mall etc.
For people coming from Golf Club Crossing to 1090 crossing, the parking falls on the left. Smarak Samiti manager, administration, Abhinav Singh said, "The parking is ready for use but people are reluctant to park here due to lack of enforcement by police on the main crossing and the food-vending street. These areas are crowded and experience jams. The move will help only if some policeman is deputed here to instruct people to take a U-turn and park in the facility instead."

The district magistrate has asked the Samiti to run his parking on contract but the administration says they have enough staff (around 40) to run the parking efficiently. "We are already running a small parking of about 45-50 cars in the Smarak Sthal, so we have the ability to run this facility too. We have around 876 staff for maintaining this area. We can use 40 people on this parking's operation and maintenance," Singh said.
The DM asked Samiti to put up glow signages on the block, at the crossing and at a 200-metre distance on each road connecting the crossing to help peopel know the exact loaction of the utility.
