Entertainment » OtherPosted at: Apr 23 2016 8:38PM IJU condemns attack on journalistHyderabad, Apr 23 (UNI): The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) today strongly condemned the attack on Kakatiya daily Editor Mohmmed Shafi by the followers of Vijayawada West MLA Jaleel Khan yesterday evening in his presence and at his instigation. In a statement here, IJU Secretary-General Amar Devulapalli, Vice-President Ambati Anjaneyulu and Press Council of India (PCI) member K Amarnath said this was not the first time that Jaleel Khan had attacked the journalists. Last week he attacked a scribe attached to Sakshi media group. "The police should immediately arrest Mr Khan and his followers for attacking the journalist and for destroying his camera. He is a habitual offender, who abused and attacked journalists in the past. In a democracy, the legislators are expected to respect the fourth estate and freedom of the press. It is a direct attack on the freedom of the media and the right of the people to know about the activities of their elected representatives," they said.
