Noida 'plant bazaar' to promote green roofs

Noida: The Floriculture Society of Noida is celebrating the 46th Earth Day by organising functions to promote rooftop gardens. It is organising a 'summer plant bazaar' on Saturday at Jal Vayu Vihar Community Centre in Sector 21.
The organisers said, by spreading the message 'rooftop green spaces make cities a better place to live in,' they plan to motivate more residents into creating rooftop gardens.
"We have scheduled a bazaar at the JVCC from 3.30pm to 6.30pm on Saturday. Entry is free for all," Deepa Pasricha, joint secretary, floriculture society said. "Experts on rooftop gardening will be present at the bazaar to guide the green buffs. Saplings and seeds of vegetables, flowers and water plants will be on offer. "she added
According to the society, residents need to transform their unused space into valuable assets. There are many ways to grow a garden indoors, right from a lush green rooftop grass lawn to an aquatic garden in a rooftop tub.
Flowers and shrubs or even mini-farms to produce fresh organic food can be grown on your roofs, said Manju Grover of the society. "Rooftop gardens reduce the ecological footprint of buildings. The gardens keep buildings cool in summer and warm in winter," she said.
"A tub on your roof covered with blooming water lilies will be a unique sight. Greening our roofs could be a crucial factor in helping the environment find a balance," she added.
