The restaurant is based on the concept of challenging ideas of body image and modernity and has a waiting list of over 23,000 names!
Seb Lyall, the London restauranteur, known for some very innovative dining concepts is all set to open the Bunyadi, a clothing-optional, pop-up restaurant scheduled to open in June. There are already over 23,000 names on the waiting list according to their website!
The idea was to create a simple, natural dining experience devoid of the modern age trappings such as artificial colours, chemicals and plastic. There will also be edible cutlery and a changing room for diners to change into their robes after entering the restaurant.
Lyall calls this "true liberation" and the details of the restaurant have been chalked out for enhancing body positivity and acceptance. “There is a whole business of victimising people based on body image, but we are making a business out of correcting it,” he said, as reported by The Washington Post.
Lyall has also claimed that this social experiment will challenge people's notions of normalcy and modernity. Candlelight, bamboo and wicker partitions and wood-hewn furniture will take patrons on a journey "in a space void of the industrialised world’s modern trappings,” a press release stated.
“This is a dream for a chef,” Lyall said. “They get bored in a traditional kitchen.” The Washington Post also reported that about their vegan menu will include wood-flame-grilled meats and have handmade clay crockery.
The creators have worked out the minute details of the restaurant such as kitchen staff being fully clothed for safety and waiters being minimally clothed for hygienic purposes. Photography will also be prohibited. If voyeurism is observed in any of the diners, the staff will immediately escort them out.
