Nakur kin to seek legal aid
Kolkata: The son of a north Kolkata sweet-shop owner, Partha Nandy , said he will take legal action against DC (DD) II Nagendra Tripathi who allegedly slapped him on Thursday . He added he may also lodge a complaint with the human rights commission.
On Thursday Nandy was hit by the cop for allegedly refusing to shut his shop during voting.
“I had gone home around 2pm and returned 45 minutes later.
The officer barged inside and asked `Why is your shop still open?'. Before I could answer, he slapped me.I have never faced such insult and I am not going to accept it. I will take legal action against the cop,“ said Nandy .
CCTV cameras in the shop caught the assault. “If necessary I will hand over the footage to my lawyers,“ Nandy added. Former head of the state human rights commission Justice Ashok Kumar Ganguly said the assault amounted to a serious hu man rights violation. “It's not only an offence but also shameful. On a day when miscreants, goons and false voters were running amok, a senior police officer chose to flex his muscles against an innocent shop-owner,“ said Justice Ganguly.
