AGRA: The first planned Mughal city and Emperor Akbar's short-lived capital, Fatehpur Sikri, is under attack from vandals and hooligans. The officer in charge of this 440-year-old Unesco World Heritage site has reported four recent incidents, including one in which he was "physically attacked", to the central conservation body Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).
Archaeologists expressed concern as two weeks ago.
The pinnacle on one of the monument's domes was also damaged. In his letter to ASI, the officer reported that on March 23, 2016, four taps installed at the RO (water filtration) plant near the Diwan-i-Aam parking were stolen.
On April 5, vandals entered the complex at night and climbed up the Diwan-i-Khas by breaking a lock and damaged the pinnacle of the southwest dome.
