A Vokkaligara Sangha has expressed fears that the population of the community in the State will be recorded lower than its actual numerical strength. Sharing the sangha’s apprehension, representative Prasanna submitted a petition to the Karnataka State Backward Classes Commission at the public hearing on Friday, to consider members of 98 sub-castes as Vokkaligas.

The petitioner contended that the sangha, established over 110 years ago, had conducted an extensive survey and held discussions with experts, before identifying the sub-castes that were once part of Vokkaligas.
