On Friday afternoon, a sports utility vehicle was gutted in a fire on the Kathipara grade separator in Guindy due to a technical snag. No one was injured.
According to the police, R. Surya, a resident of Soolaipallam, KK Nagar, and his relatives were travelling to Ginjee to attend a funeral. As smoke billowed from the engine portion, the driver of the car stopped the vehicle by the roadside and alerted the other passengers, all of whom got down.
Soon, the fire spread and two fire tenders from Guindy and Ashok Nagar rushed to the spot and put out the fire in 20 minutes. Traffic slowed down for more than 30 minutes due to the accident. — Staff Reporter
