Dakshina Kannada district administration and the police on Friday removed a banner displayed outside a muzrai temple at Katipalla here, which was threatening to disturb peace in the area.
The banner put up in the name of ‘Hindu Jagarana Vedike’ said non-Hindus cannot put up stalls and do business outside the temple during its annual fair from April 19 to 23. The image of the banner had gone viral in the social media.
It was removed in the forenoon after it was brought to the notice of the district administration. Ningaiah, executive officer of Sri Mahaganapathi temple, Ganeshpura, Katipalla, lodged a complaint with Surathkal police, seeking action against those who displayed it.
‘Nothing to do with it’
Raju Mogaveera, administrator of the temple, told The Hindu that the temple had nothing to do with the banner and it had not put any restriction on anybody from doing business outside its premises. It appeared to be the act of some mischief mongers, he said.
Speaking to The Hindu , Satyajith Surathkal, co-convener of Hindu Jagarana Vedike, Karnataka, said the vedike had nothing to do with the display of the banner.
