A woman travelling on an MTC bus was relieved of 17 sovereigns gold jewellery and 25,000 in cash on Friday morning.

A woman travelling on an MTC bus was relieved of 17 sovereigns gold jewellery and 25,000 in cash on Friday morning. Police said Deepa, a native of Madurai, boarded the bus on route 71E (Thiruninravur to Broadway) on Friday. When the bus reached New Avadi Road, Deepa found her handbag missing in which she had 25,000 and 17 sovereigns of gold jewellery.
She lodged a complaint with the Ayanavaram police. She said she suspected two women standing beside her on the bus were involved. Deepa told police they tried to divert her attention and engaged her in a conversation. Armed with the description provided by Deepa, police launched a hunt for the duo.

Burglars loot 2L gold, 12K: Burglars decamped with 10 sovereigns of gold jewellery worth around 2.08 lakh and 12,000 in cash from a house in Teynampet on Thursday. Police said Manikandan, a resident of Dr Thomas Road in Teynampet, had gone to his native place in Tiruvannamalai for a temple festival, when the incident took place.
