Lucknow: The quality of water supplied in Riverbank colony, Daliganj, Khadra, Aliganj, Kaiserbagh, Lalbagh and several localities of old Lucknow is far below the suitable standard, revealed a sampling test conducted by the chief medical officer (CMO).
The sampling results showed the level of chlorination in running water as nil. According to standards, it should be around 2 ppm (parts per million).
Chlorine extracts in water help to kill the external bacteria's and make the water worth for domestic use.

Explaining the hazardous effects of water without chlorine, CMO SNS Yadav said, "In summer, there is a large presence of germs and bacteria in water and chlorine kills them. Water without chlorine can not only lead to stomach and intestine infections but can also be a cause of fatal diseases like Hepatitis A and E, dysentery, and diarrhea."
Rajiv Bajpayee, Jal Sansthan general manager, said, "We will conduct a retest in the same areas; the results that are revealed in this testing may be due to some faults. If the second time also we get similar reading then extensive combing will be carried out to find the loopholes."
