On Wednesday, National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) member Priyank Kanoongo requested the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) and the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting not to allow the release of Nil Battey Sannata (which was released yesterday) as it violates child rights by showing 'corporal punishment being meted out to children in the classroom.'
Reacting to the request, Swara Bhaskar, who plays the the lead in the film, tells us, 'I don't really know anything about this, it would be best to talk to the producers.
I would, however, request everyone to watch the entire film before coming to conclusions based on an out-of-context visual snippet of the film.'

There is a school assembly scene in the film in which the school principal tells late-comers to stand in a corner and raise their hands, and asks others to stand erect and not pick their nose. He also sarcastically asks them to choose between becoming a 'ghoda ya khachchar.' A part of this scene was also in trailer, which offended NCPCR members, and they asked CBFC not to allow the release of the film, which has received a U certificate.

Kanoongo's letter said, 'Prima facie on perusal of the trailers of the film, it has been observed by the Commission that instances of corporal punishment being meted out to children in classroom (sic) have been depicted in the scenes available on YouTube and trailers in the theaters.'
