A man who raped a minor girl was sentenced to seven years rigourous imprisonment by a Tuticorin court on Thursday. Sudalaimani, 22, son of Murugaiah of Kasilingapuram near Oddapidaram in Tuticorin district had lured the 15-year-old girl from the same region with promises of marriage. On August 15, 2015 he took her to Tirunelveli and raped her and left her there.
The case was tried in the mahila court in Tuticorin, and judge Flora ordered Sudalaimani to seven years rigorous imprisonment with a fine of Rs 4,000.
Woman throws ganja into prison, held:
Police arrested a woman for throwing a ganja packet inside the Madurai central prison for an accused lodged there. The woman was identified as Valli, wife of Pandi from Pottapalayam near Tiruppuvanam. She threw the ganja packet for the remand prisoner and her relative Pandiaraj, who is lodged in prison, when she visited him on Wednesday. Prison personnel who saw the woman took her to Karimedu police station and registered a case.
Mobile phone stolen:
An unidentified person stole a mobile phone from a man while he was returning home after visiting the Meenakshi Amman temple. Kalimuthu was carrying his mobile in his shirt pocket and was travelling in a share autorickshaw. When he checked his pocket after getting down from the vehicle, he realised that the mobile phone was missing. Based on a complaint from Kalimuthu, a case was registered with Thilagar Thidal police station.
Devotee's handbag snatched:
The handbag of a 31-yaer-old woman was snatched by an unidentified person while she was witnessing the Meenakshi Amman car festival on Wednesday. The woman, identified as Thilagavathi, wife of Kannan from Bethaniapuram came to North Vadampokki Street to witness the car festival. A person snatched the woman's handbag and disappeared into the crowd. She later filed a complaint with the Thilagar Thidal police station.
