Panaji: The state directorate of mines and geology, on Thursday, suspended the registration of the truck that was involved in Wednesday's accident at Tilamol in which two women died. The vehicle has now been debarred from transporting mineral ore for the rest of the season. Its driver, Janu Yamkar, on the other hand, has been suspended from service for three years.

"I hereby suspend the registration of the vehicle for the rest of the season, and also suspend the employment of its driver from transporting mineral ore for three years unless he is exonerated from criminal trial for rash and negligent driving whichever is earlier with effect from April 20," director of mines and geology Prasanna Acharya, stated in the order.
The suspension has been issued under the Goa (Prevention of illegal mining, storage and transportation of minerals) Rules, 2013.
Acharya reiterated that vehicles registered with the department are to be driven without causing hindrance to the other vehicles and commuters who take roads and routes that are also used for the transportation of minerals.
"If vehicles are driven in the rash and negligent manner, they jeopardize the life and property of commuters and people living in the vicinity of such routes of transportation. Such incidents are to be sternly dealt with, keeping in mind the safety of such commuters and residents," he added.
Two women died and a two-year-old child was severely injured in an accident involving a mining truck and a two-wheeler at Tilamol, Quepem, on Wednesday evening. The accident occurred at the area's main junction.
