Labor officials assisting ATV employees get wages

Labour Secretary Matthew Cheung says the department is helping former ATV employees who are still owed back wages.

He says the Labour Department is arranging payments for them from the government's Protection of Wages Insolvency Fund.

The department is also working with the liquidator, Deloitte, to process the unpaid wages for the affected employees.

Cheung says the department is awaiting a reply from the Department of Justice regarding the prosecution of ATV.

Earlier this month, ATV went off the air, ending its 59-year run as the world's oldest Chinese-language broadcaster upon the expiry of its free-to-air television license.—RTHK
