Water diversion schemes to be revived, says minister
Nashik: District guardian minister Girish Mahajan on Thursday assured of clearing administrative hurdles regarding water diversion schemes in Dindori taluka.
The schemes are about 75% complete. Once completed, they would be effective in diverting 1,500 mcft water from the west-flowing river into the Godavari basin.
"We understand the need of constructing and completing of such diversion schemes, which have been stalled for over two years for want of revised administrative approval.
At a time when every drop of water needs to be harvested, we realise that these diversion schemes be allowed to continue and completed at the earliest. We will revisit the permissions in a fortnight and clear the hurdles," said Mahajan, who is also the state water resources minister.
He was speaking during his meeting with the officials and various representatives at Niyojan Bhawan.
Asked whether any action has been taken against the Nashik Municipal Corporation (NMC) whose water meter has been defunct for more than six months, the minister said his department has asked for an explanation from the concerned office. He also said that the issue would be raised at the highest level.
"We have taken the issue seriously. We will ensure that action is taken against those responsible for the act," the minister said.
Mahajan said the government is responsible to provide water to the citizens of Nashik till July 31. Hence, the citizens need not worry at all, he added.
