Resume Subansiri project work, says Arunachal student body
Itanagar: The Arunachal Students' Forum (ASF) has sought the state power minister's immediate intervention for resumption of construction work for the 2000-MW Lower Subansiri hydroelectric project at Gerukamukh.
In a memorandum addressed to the power minister on Wednesday, ASF asserted that the project is one of the largest hydro projects under construction in the country.
The construction work had been stopped following protest by anti-dam antagonists in neighbouring Assam, the federation said, and added that if constructed, the dam will facilitate flood attenuation during the monsoon season.
"The project will serve as an employment-oriented one. Many local youths will get the opportunity to work in various capacities, which will serve as a boon for the unemployed youths and tackle the problem of unemployment in the state. The unemployed engineers of the state will also find an opportunity," the ASF further wrote in its memorandum.
