The former Labour Minister and Janata Dal (Secular) leader C. Gurunath (66) ended his life on Thursday by leaping from the second floor window of the Sagar Hospital on Bannerghatta Road on Thursday afternoon, where he was recuperating after surgery on Tuesday.

He was suffering from acute diabetes and had renal problems and was to have been discharged on Thursday afternoon. The police suspect that he may have been depressed over his medical condition.

He is survived by his wife and four children. The body will be taken to his hometown Shahbad, in Kalaburagi district, for the last rites, said Ramakrishnappa, Mr. Gurunath’s brother. The Tilak Nagar police have registered a case of unnatural death and are investigating.
