Surat: Talavchora in Chikli taluka of Navsari, which has become third digital village in the state after Panaj and Sultanpur of the same district, has charted a new course for its population of 5,000. A fashion designer would soon be imparting knowledge to tailors and women of the village on the latest fashion trends through an e-learning app on village's website designed by a 23-year-old entrepreneur, Chirag Lad.
This would be a trendsetting development because Talavchora so far was known for its bullock carts and pearl farming only.
Talavchora sarpanch Ashvin Patel told TOI, "Every house in the village has Internet connection so we decided to provide all information and services online to people. They can take benefit from the e-learning app and utilize the panchayat office's website for different services. People will also be able to file e-complaints on our website, which will be updated regularly. Our becoming digital will be cheered most by 70 families from Talavchora who live abroad."
Meanwhile, Talavchora panchayat plans to sell agro products and gruhudyog products online. Chirag Lad said, "We are in the process of providing basic computer skills to rural people so that they can carry out e-commerce and agro trading online. Farmers would also be able to interact with scientists and learn about ways to improve crop output. We would be launching tablet-based farming programme within six months for NRI farmers."
Lad and his partner Rahul Mistry will be conducting a personality development session for rural students before starting free online education for them.
Chandni Mistry, a fashion designer from Navsari, would be teaching rural women about fashion. "I will update them about market trends to help them face international competition more confidently."
